Mrs. Adaline Carpenter 75 of Fairfield died Thursday at home. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nale Chapel Fairfield with Rev. Donald Vaughn officiating. Burial in Koontz cemetery Fairfield. Several nieces and nephews survive.
Paul David Smith, 28, of Elgin, died from injuries after an automobile motorcycle crash in Elgin about ten days earlier. Former Mt. Vernon resident. Funeral arrangements at Hughey Pulley Funeral Home. Survivors include relatives in the Mt. Vernon area.
Barney Skinner 78 of Aurora died Thursday in Aurora Wayne county area. Services held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Nale Chapel Fairfield with Rev Ivan Kunce officiating. Burial in Bethel cemetery Wayne county. Survived by brother Ellis Skinner Golden Gate and sister Mrs Sidney Ginger St Charles Mo.
Twenty-two new confirmed probable and suspected St. Louis encephalitis cases lift Illinois total to 151. New confirmed cases include a Des Plaines woman, Evergreen Park woman, two Chicago residents, and an Olney man. Probable and suspected cases add Cook County, Decatur, Olney, Joliet, Bloomington, Springfield, Galesburg, and Jacksonville entries. Weather and local dam data follow in the brief.
IMF director Johannes Witteveen says oil producers could refrain or curb price hikes to avoid hurting the world economy during meetings in Washington. OPEC plans talk in Vienna on Sept 23. Lynette Alice Squeaky Fromme, 26, a follower of Charles Manson, was seized after she pointed a loaded pistol at President Ford during a Sacramento handshake event. Prosecutors say Manson had a hand in the plot, noting the Manson group’s patterns and communications from prison.
Senior citizens protested proposed Illinois Bell Telephone Co rate increases at a Commerce Commission hearing led by Eloise Williams of the Chicago Metropolitan Area Senior Citizens Senate. Protesters argued the telephone is essential, citing life and safety needs, as the company seeks about 178 million dollars more annually with higher directory assistance and pay call charges.
