John D Breeze died at 4 25 pm Monday in Mt. Vernon at 94 years two months four days. Born July 17 in Farrington township to Cornelius and Lucinda Underwood Breese, he lived in Te k from 1915, later with his children. He served 12 years as Jefferson County highway superintendent and was a member of Little Grove Christian church Walnut Hill Rome Masonic Lodge and other groups. He married Cassie Cruzen on November 29 1880 on their 53rd anniversary. Survived by 14 descendants including four sons Frank Ernest Lester. three daughters Lily Barton May Harvey Nan Bullock. one sister Alice Jackson. one brother Edgar Breeze. Funeral Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Little Grove Christian Church, Rev J G Parsons officiating. Burial Little Grove cemetery. Osborn Funeral Home Dix handling arrangements.

Roscoe Hollis. burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by two sons Maxey M. Sugg and Norman J. Sugg, daughter Effie Wilcox, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. predeceased by husband Isaac Franklin Sugg and seven brothers.

Susan Rebecca Crosno 83, widow of Co OR Crosno, died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital after a stroke. Born October 9, 1871 in McClellan township, she taught rural Jefferson county schools 10 years, moved to New Mexico in 1912, and remained active in church until blindness. Survived by husband, son Dr C Donald Crosno, daughter Maude, one grandson, two granddaughters, four brothers, one sister, and many relatives. Funeral Saturday at Monte Vista Christian Church Albuquerque with burial there.

Governor safety plea follows oil worker tragedy
A series of fatal incidents across Illinois are reported. An oil worker was crushed on a drilling site. Carl LeBeau, 30, of Ottawa, was shot during a hunt in LaSalle County when his uncle fired. Arthur Herzog said he did not know his nephew was in the line of fire. Lee G. Williams, 24, and his father Alvis, of West Frankfort, were involved in the homedark event. A highway crash north of Cave-In-Rock claimed Robert Doyle of Red Bud and William Buck, 26, of Fairfield, as well as Carroll D. Smith, 26, of Pekin. Hamilton Pehrson, 78, of Chicago, was struck by a car on U S Route 66 near Braceville.

Flood disaster relief drives donors total 443.28

Celebration Of Labor Day Ends At Mt. Vernon Park
Mt. Vernons three day Labor Day celebration closed with an address by Douglas B. Anderson of Chicago, a concert, and free circus acts. The crowd attended the Labor Day address and evening events after a weekend of daily concerts. A Labor placard urged officials to use manual labor on motor fuel tax streets and to pursue tax exemptions for new industries. The parade occurred at 10 am Monday with no float competition.
