Boyd Sunshine Club Sees First Day Of School Theme

The Boyd Sunshine Club met September 1 at Mrs Verneil Garren’s home with Mrs Clarence Benjamin as co host. Twelve members and one guest Miss Betty Barr attended a school girl themed meeting with geography spelling arithmetic and music contests and prizes. Refreshments were served in lunch bags. The October meeting will be at Mrs Melvin Douthitt’s home.

Moore Couple Celebrates 50th Anniversary at Mt. Vernon

Mr and Mrs Moore observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary with about two hundred attendees from Ohio Indiana and the local community. They married September 12 1899 at the First Methodist Church Mt Vernon and have resided on their farm. Five children nine grandchildren and one great grandchild joined relatives for the celebration with gifts and flowers including a purple orchid from Mr Moore.

Mr and Mrs Glen Johnson of Bishop Court welcomed a six pound two ounce daughter named Jeanette Joyce born at 5 45 am Sunday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Charles Robert Fornear of Lesser welcomed a daughter Charlotte Jean at Jefferson Memorial Hospital weighing eight pounds 11 ounces. Mr and Mrs Thomas Edward Pavelonia of South 21st street welcomed a daughter Alice Diane born this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital weighing seven pounds nine ounces. Latham Sr. dies suddenly at 60 in Bloomington

Robert Allen Latham Sr. of 524 S 24th street died suddenly of a heart attack at 6 45 pm Monday. He was 60 years four months and 26 days old. A Standard Oil supervisor salesman, he married Lillian Schmidt in 1911 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter plus four sisters and a brother. Funeral set for Wednesday at Myers Chapel with Masonic Lodge involvement. Burial planned in Kankakee Illinois Thursday. He was born April 9 1889 in Bloomington.

Cullins Infant Dies Yesterday in East St. Louis

Gary Lee Cullins five day old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Culling of Ninth and George died yesterday morning at St. Marys Hospital in East St. Louis. Born August 30 at Good Samaritan Hospital, he was taken to East St. Louis hospital after birth. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of God Seventh and Con ger with burial in Sursa cemetery. The body was to be moved from Osborn Funeral Home to the family home for calling hours.
