New City Garage To Be Built In Mt Vernon
City council favored Lipps low bid for the proposed new public works garage to be built on Seventh Street area. Construction may start this fall as the city plans to move from the current site near Brickyard Road. The council also reviewed a zoning ordinance to extend city zoning beyond limits and heard requests to reclassify Salem Road and north with street parcels to business use. Discussion covered water service policy for areas outside city limits, bulk water sales to Bluford and Woodlawn, and planned Woodlawn water system expansion with Mt. Vernon as supplier. Further negotiations with Utilities Commission will precede any council action.

Stolen Ruby Returned From Ransom In Palm Beach
The DeLong ruby, 100 carats and priceless, was recovered after a $25,000 ransom paid to underworld figures. Found Thursday night in a public telephone booth on the Sunshine State Parkway, it rested on a booth ledge and appeared like a crimson marble. Millionaire John D.
