Rites Today for Nellie Miller
Funeral services for Nellie Gray Miller were held at 2:00 p.m. at Dahlgren, burial in Richardson Hill cemetery. She died at 11 p.m. Saturday at her Dahlgren home at age 67. Born December 7, 1884 in Dahlgren, daughter of Charles and Alice Gray. Married March 19, 1902 to Charles R. Miller, who survives, with children Fern Bainter Theo R. Miller Raburn Miller Charles F. Miller Wanda Sergeant Denver Miller June Russell Darlene Miller, a sister Ada Campbell and Byford Gray, plus 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was a member of the Dahlgren Methodist Church.

Calf meets its Waterloo in Mt Vernon area
The stray calf that escaped Mt. Vernon police on Monday night was finally killed when a truck driven by A. D. Faust of Nashville, Tennessee struck it on U S Route 460, about a mile southeast of Mt. Vernon. The calf had escaped from a sales barn on Perkins Avenue and was last seen near Shawnee Street and behind the Wagner Electric plant.

Nineteen Patients Attend State Clinic at Good Samaritan
Nineteen patients attended the state aided cancer diagnostic clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital yesterday. Ten were follow ups and nine were new patients. Four came from Centralia and Mt. Found Guilty in Accident Case in East St Louis

Florida diver found dead after Wakulla Springs dive
Charles Scott Stanton of Macomb Illinois and Florida State University was trapped 170 feet below Wakulla Springs after an underwater show. The 25 year old Navy veteran and gymnast vanished while surfacing from a deep water dive. Lifeguards could not save him, and police said cramps may have caused the tragedy. Stanton had attended Western Illinois State Teachers College and was a Florida State junior with next of kin listed as his mother Mrs Mary Ann Stanton.

Du Quoin Coal Miner Killed on First Shift
Roman Waller aged 50 a helper on a coal loading machine at Peabody Coal Companys Majestic mine was killed on his first shift after a memorial holiday called by John L. Lewis. United Mine Workers halted work with 450 striking and 200 on the night shift walked out as news spread. Waller buried under a rib of coal that loosened as he passed. Day shift of 250 workers returned home after learning of the accident. The Majestic mine outputs about 5 000 tons daily.
