A long list of residents and visitors from Mt Vernon and surrounding towns spent Thursday and Friday at the Du Quoin Fair. Attendees included Miss Sue Moss and Bob Puckett, Mr. and Mrs. E Veatch, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bundy, Police Chief Verner Pigg, Officer Bill Pigs, Harold Silversman of Salem, and many others. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Patterson Webb are set for Sunday at 2 PM in Myers Chapel with Dr. George Whitten presiding. Burial follows at Oakwood Cemetery. The Mt. Vernon native, 55, died Tuesday in Denver, Colo. She was born April 17, 1893, to Samuel A. and Tennie Patterson and married Frank C. Webb on September 29, 1920. Surviving are her sister Mrs. Frank M. Dewey Sr. of Mt. Vernon and her husband. Webb lived in St. Louis from 1920 to 1944 before moving to Denver, Colorado.

Arrested After Firing Shot Here
Karl Pickerill was arrested at 1 15 a.m. after firing a shot during a street altercation in the 100 block of S Tenth Street. He was booked on a drunk and disturbance charge with no disposition by 1 00 p.m. Police did not identify the other man. About two hours later county officers reported shots fired from a shotgun into a tavern he operates north of Ina.

On February 15 1936 she married the Rev John O Kelly who survives. John Henry Richards, a lifelong Jefferson county farmer, died at 12 40 pm at his Mt Vernon township home. He was 64 years two months and 27 days old, born June 6 1884. He married Pearl Weller in 1922 in Kansas and she survives with his mother and five sisters and three daughters. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
