Weekend Accidents Leave One Dead Eight Hurt in Washington Co
A 16 year old Hoyleton boy died and several others were injured in two Labor Day weekend crashes near Plum Hill and Radom in Washington County. Bruce Sachtleben died at Washington Co Hospital after a one car crash two miles south of Plum Hill. Passenger Cynthia Garris, 15, of Okanville, survived with minor injuries. A Crystal City Texas family of seven was injured on Route 51 north of Radom. Driver Frances Ancosta, 21, and passenger Consuelo Ancosta, 44 sustained major and critical injuries respectively, with five children also hurt. Ancosta family members blamed another car for forcing their vehicle into a concrete bridge abutment.

Claude Flanagan 1715 Broadway reports a break in Sunday.

A Mt Vernon man told police a 1:20 am strongarm robbery occurred on Perkins Avenue as two young suspects took his $19 billfold and camera. Weekend break ins included Skelton's Market cigars, a cigarette machine, Franklin grade school vandalism, car stereo tapes stolen from a parked vehicle, and an attempted break in at Rogers Grocery with $200 previously stolen.

Jerry Robinson Dies in McLeansboro Area Crash
Jerry Lynn Robinson 27 of Route 1 McLeansboro died Saturday night in a two vehicle wreck at Campbell’s Corner eight miles west of McLeansboro on State Route 14. Funeral services were held today at 11:00 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev. Gene Rister officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery west of McLeansboro. He was born February 7, 1942 in Ridgway, Illinois, son of Lawrence and Pauline Robinson. Survivors include his parents, one brother Steven Robinson of McLeansboro, and one sister Mrs Judy Smith of McLeansboro.

Arrest man for beating state trooper near Bloomington
A Chicago man, John F. Harvey, 20, was arrested on attempted murder and aggravated battery charges in connection with the beating of Illinois state trooper Leonard Kelly, 26, on U S 66 near Bloomington. Kelly was in fair condition with a jaw fracture after a truck carrying stolen merchandise fled. A second suspect remained at large as police pursued the abandoned truck near a corn field.
