Danny Kotter to Shriner's Hospital in St Louis for 4 to 5 months. Various residents from Benton, Poplar Bluff, Bakerville, Monroe Wisconsin, McConnell, Tyler Texas, Du Quoin and Mt. Vernon visit, shop, or travel for fairs, families, and medical needs.

Former Resident Florence Mitchell Dies Early Today

Florence Mitchell 32 a former Mt. Vernon resident and Spokane, Washington native died of a heart attack in Burlington Iowa at 5:55 this morning. She had been visiting Mt. Vernon when struck ill and died days later in hospital. Funeral services will be Sunday in Marissa Illinois with burial there. Survived by husband Merritt Lee Mitchell a daughter Frances Lee 7 her father A B Orr and mother Mrs Bessie Orr and a brother Francis Orr all of Mt Vernon and Spokane.

The Mr. Vernon Monument Co owned by Terry Egbert opened today at 1300 Salem Road. Egbert, a former Curtiss Candy Co employee, previously operated a monument business in McLeansboro.

August Accidents Reported Across Mt Vernoh Streets

Police headquarters released August statistics listing 28 accidents on Mt Vernoh streets. Three persons were injured in the month, with 26 injuries occurring in Brana incidents. One collision caused two injuries and another incident left one person hurt.

The Fullerton family and friends host a basket dinner at city park on September 3. Various groups meet Sept 3 and 5 including Fernleaf Camp No. 694 at J O O F Temple and Mt. Firemen Respond to Panel Truck Fire at Tenth and Perkins

Firemen were called at 3 20 p m yesterday to a panel truck fire caused by a wiring short at the corner of Tenth and Perkins in Mount Vernon. Damage was slight according to fire officials.

Three day-old Linda Diane York daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billie Joe York of 600 Broadway has ten living grandparents and marks the fifth generation on her father's side. Grandparents listed include Mrs. Ora McKay and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence York of Mt. Vernon. Great grandparents are Mrs. Lucy Sinks of Macedonia, Mrs. Emma York of Mt. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Skinner of Madison Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. George McKay of Belle Rive. Linda Kay also has one great great grandfather, Ed Henry of Mt. Vernon.

Former Mt. Vernon Resident Dies in Evansville

Lawrence M. Heggy aged 63, a former Mt. Vernon resident and L. N. railroad passenger conductor, died this morning in Evansville Indiana. He was married to Lena Claybourn. The body will be brought to Mt. Vernon for burial. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Girl Scout Leaders Meet At Little House Event

Thirty five scout leaders and council members attended a pet acquainted party at the Little House. The calendar was reviewed, troop organization explained, and September 17 set for all troops to the meeting. Early registration urged and new leaders were invited to start training September 6. Regular leaders meetings are the second Monday each month at 6:30 for potluck dinners. The first meeting is September 11.

Haman Recaptured In U S Counterattack Near Pusan

North Korean forces expected to seize Masan within three days as a Red armored division struck the Changyong sector. The U S Second Division fell back after deep penetration, while the 24th Division retook the earlier bridgehead and prepared to counterattack near Yongsan. Heavy fighting also reported at Songjin near the Naktong River.

Veteran Illinois Power retiree receives gold wrist watch

Mr Koontz, a line foreman at Illinois Power, retired at 65 under the firm retirement plan after more than 20 years of service. The ceremony at the south 11th street plant yesterday featured a gold wrist watch presented by fellow employees. He began with the Mt Vernon firm in January 1923 and spent recent years in the gas department alongside heating and water duties.
