The Queen Esthers of the First Methodist church hosted over forty guests for a Halloween themed party on the first floor with autumn flowers. An auction of pies by Queen Esther girls raised funds to support ongoing foreign missionary work led by Mrs. Eleanor Miner, as the group expanded from six charter members to about thirty participants.
The J. V. Club moves its Hallowe en party to October 24 from the previously announced date. All members urged to call Nora Williamson if they plan to bring guests.
The Delphian Society will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday at 7:90 PM at the home of Mrs. G Ky Johnson. The year books will be read, a course of study announced, officers elected, and other business discussed. All members urged to attend.
The Missionary society of the Christian church held its monthly meeting at Mrs. J.M. Catron’s home on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Creighton Firebaugh spoke on The Life of A.J. McLean while Mrs. O. O. Pettit discussed Home Missions. Mrs. Huddleson from Renton district secretary delivered a main address titled The Vein of Our Talents. Music by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Elles complemented the event. refreshments were provided by the hostess with help from Mrs. Clarence Reynolds and Mrs. Ben Miller.
International News from Chicago reports railroad brotherhoods reached a strike decision after days of talks. Executives of national railroads met and prepared plans to endure a work stoppage, with October 20 eyed as the strike date though not officially announced.
Gordon F Chance and Miss Elizabeth Payne of Washington married today at Christ Church Georgetown at noon. Chance is the son of Postmaster Merritt O Chance of Washington. The ceremony was followed by a reception and plans for future address and schooling details were noted in local notices.
