Attempted Truman Shooting Spree Near Blair House
In the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue gunfire erupted near the White House as President Truman’s safety was threatened. Police and fire crews arrived quickly while a crowd gathered and confusion spread. Thirty minutes later Truman exited Blair House and attended the Dill ceremonies as planned.

Youth Shot by School Guard at Shabbona High
An 18-year-old youth, Lawrence Clausen, was shot in the back during Halloween pranks at Shabbona High School. Frank Nelson, 63, a special deputy sheriff guarding the school, fired a pistol to frighten pranksters from a trailer on the roof. Nelson was questioned by the county state's attorney.
