POPLAR BLUFF MO A Poplar Bluff policeman and his two stepsons all said to be excellent swimmers drowned when their boat overturned on Wappapella Lake about 16 miles from Poplar Bluff. One surviving officer who could not swim was saved. The victims were Lawrence Melton 26 Ronnie Metz 9 and Donnie Metz 10. Buddy Bishop survived. the accident occurred during a holiday fishing trip. Bishop said the boys stood up and the boat capsized. He attempted to aid but could not reach them.

A 42 year old radar plant technician stood near a transmitter for under a minute, felt heat in the abdomen within 10 seconds, and died within two weeks.
