Jonesboro Man Dies In Wreck

ANNA, Il. James Tucker 24 of Jonesboro died Thursday night in a traffic accident on U.S. 51 near Anna in Union County. Police said Tucker was a passenger in a car attempting a left turn while being overtaken by another vehicle. Two other persons were injured, one seriously.

Keiger retires after 28 years as Waltonville rural carrier

Jesse O. Keiger of Waltonville retires from the Waltonville Post Office after 28 years on a rural route. He saw farm numbers shrink and roads improve, with mired days mostly behind him. A World War II veteran, he and his wife Lois Martin Keiger run an antique business and remain active in veteran affairs.

New Otterbein Church in Bluford Opens Doors Sunday

The Otterbein United Methodist church at Poplar and South Avenue Bluford hosts open house Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. Formed in 1972 by merging Bluford and Oak Dale United Methodist churches, the three acre site was bought from Dorothy Woodworth of Mt. Vernon and built by Stephen and Wilson Associates of Granite City at a total cost of 150000 dollars. Members did much of the work including painting staining and balcony construction. Pastor is Rev. John A. Weller.

Robertson and Associates, operators of the Belle Rive strip mine, applied to the Illinois Division of Water Resources for a construction permit to authorize a temporary four-barrel culvert in Auxier Creek for a private mine road. Charles Marzano, 40, sentenced to 20 years for his role in the nation s largest cash theft. He was convicted May 1 in U S District Court on conspiracy and bank theft tied to the 4.3 million Armored Express Co. holdup. Co defendant Luigi M DiFonzo was acquitted while three others pleaded guilty. Ralph Marrera, the guard on duty, is ill and awaiting trial.
