Henry Hudson Former Resident Dies in Oklahoma
Henry Gale Hudson, 58, longtime Mt. Vernon resident, died May 23 near Ardmore Oklahoma after a month long illness. He operated a service station and was linked to Hudson Hess Drilling Co in Mt. Vernon and later J. Hudson Drilling Co. He left Illinois in 1946 returning to Oklahoma. Survived by wife Dora two sons Henry Jr Springer Okla and Donald Boyd Holiday Texas and five grandchildren.

Steal Flowers at Grave in Oakwood Cemetery
A quantity of flowers and vases were stolen from a grave in Oakwood Cemetery, city police said. Mrs. John Wesley Graham reported the theft from the grave of her mother, who died Sunday and was buried Wednesday, noting a large bouquet and vases missing.

Confederate Flags Fly At Rock Island Cemetery
Confederate flags will fly over 1,960 graves at Rock Island Arsenal Memorial Day marking the first massed display in a Northern cemetery. The flags, a gift from the United Daughters of the Confederacy, honor Southern soldiers who died in prison on the island after battles such as Lookout Mountain. Alabama leads with 426 dead, followed by Tennessee and Georgia, with the Confederate Cemetery spanning over an acre and a half.
