The Atchison Topeka Santa Fe Railway now controls the Toledo Peoria and Western Railroad subject to ICC approval. Santa Fe president Fred H. Gurley said the line acquired 73,800 shares or 100 percent of the stock for 9,963,000 dollars. The 239 mile line runs from Iowa through Illinois to Indiana linking with Santa Fe to the west and Pennsylvania to the east. The estate of George P McNear Jr previously held the stock. McNear bought the line in 1926 and was assassinated near his Peoria home in 1947. The killers remain unknown.
