Dr Burt D Bowie 79 Rt 1 Macedonia died at home at 8 20 am. Graveside rites set for 3 pm Wednesday at Macedonia Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 pm Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. born Oct 20 1889 Rogers Neb. married to Mabel Brikkey who survives.
The Mt. Vernon stop in the Powder Puff Derby will finalize local plans after a lunch meeting for committee chairmen at 11 30 a m Tuesday at Top of The First Restaurant Jerome Glassman is organizing the event with chairs Florence Glass Marge Rudd Charles York Max Firebaugh Paul Bellamy Chester Lewis Lois Feigenbaum Barbara Stratton David Bayer Clifford Fields Charles Williams and Enton Civil Air Patrol.
Johnston City men James Carroll and Virgil Borchett Jr were fined 500 each and placed on five years probation after pleading guilty to stealing 1,000 worth of lumber from Herbert Eyre's home site at Scheller in April. Bond money covered part of the fines. 12 months remain to pay costs.

Mr and Mrs George Cox of 103 North 29th street welcomed a daughter born at 2 15 AM May 26 at Good Samaritan Hospital weighing 7 pounds.
Mt Vernon ends a five day cleanup week sponsored by the chamber of commerce with surge in debris removal. City public works chief Leslie Hall said more debris was cleared than in the past decade and credited cooperative residents and scouts. Extra pickup capacity and multiple trucks aided the effort.

Chicago AP reports grain quotes with Wheat No 2 hard yellow at 1.3354 and No 2 soft red at 1.29 percent. Corn No 2 yellow at 1.28 percent and No 4 yellow at 1.26 percent. Oats No 2 extra heavy white at 68 percent. Soybeans No 1 yellow at 2.7144 and No 3 yellow at 2.71. Soybean oil at 8.10.
Wall Street moved in a narrow range amid cautious investors awaiting new domestic and international developments. The Dow opened noon at 948.29, up 0.84, with the AP average down 0.4 at 337.9. IBM rose 1, Xerox up 24, Natomas up 5 to 115, and Restaurant Associates up 1 at 25 on AMEX.
New York AP reports Dow Jones noon stock averages with 30 Industrials at 948.29 up 0.84, Rails at 236.88 down 1.42, Utilities at 129.92 down 0.64, and the broader Stocks index at 325.80 down 0.73. Market movers include the Industrials advancing while rails and utilities retreat.
At SPACE CENTER Houston AP reports Apollo 10 astronauts Eugene Cernan Thomas Stafford and John Young shaved in space using a brushless cream after years of failed attempts with mechanical shavers. A drugstore safety razor helped resolve weightless whisker woes. Stafford dubbed it a scientific experiment with the acrostic SHAVE.
Los Angeles voters head to the polls for the mayoral race between Thomas Bradley and incumbent Sam Yorty. Bradley holds a solid lead in independent surveys, with Muchmore’s poll showing 53 to 36 percent and Field Poll at 43 to 38 percent, while undecided voters linger. Bradley, a 21 year police officer, denies charges of militant support.
Astronauts Stafford Young and Cernan returned from a 8 day 3 minute flight covering 700000 miles. They circled the moon 31 times and practiced landing maneuvers 9.4 miles from the surface. Reentry was rapid with heat, parachutes deployed and a coastal recovery in the Pacific.
Beverly S. Tager ing of Grant Meadows pays $10 for speeding. Bill E. Duncan of south 13th owes $75 for driving with a suspended license. Earl B. Adams of south 18th pays $10 for improper lane usage. David L. Wilt of north 8th owes $10 for disobeying a traffic signal. Ja mes O. Hodges of Centralia faces $75 for revoked license. Charles T. Lemon of Huntington West Virginia forfeits $25 cash bond for no reciprocity. Frances P. Janson of Cambridge Wisconsin pays $15 for no reciprocity.
Saigon AP reports the US Command announced two new offensives in South Vietnam aimed at destroying enemy forces and resources. Operation Samar Plain began May 16 near Da Nang to relieve Tam Ky. Operation Herkimer Mountain near Khe Sanh targets North Vietnamese and Marines with mixed results. Casualties: 28 Americans killed, 134 wounded. 142 North Vietnamese killed across both drives.
Visitors toured Inland coal operations highlighting dangers of coal dust explosions and topside processing where metallurgical and steam coal are separated. They saw three 14,000 ton silos for processed coal and unit trains linking to Indiana Harbor Works, plus an underground equipment display and the 93 acre water reservoir.
Five people suffered minor injuries in five weekend automobile dents in Mt Vernon. At 1 22 a m Sunday James Dale Conner 24 of 240814 Cherry struck a telephone pole on south 12th street. Conner was charged with careless driving. He had slight injuries and no treatment. His car damage exceeded 100 dollars when the pole fell on it. At 11 04 a m Saturday Leonard Dennings 67 of 2203 Casey and Kathy C Coons 28 of Route 4 collided at Main and Johnson. Kathy Coons charged with illegal lane usage. Two passengers Aaron Douglas Coons 2 and Raney Coons 6 injured slightly. Cars damaged over 100 dollars. At 8 05 p m Saturday Rodney D Hobbs 17 Route 5 and Cheryl A Graddy 16 of 1104 Maple collided on North 10th street. Cheryl Graddy charged with carelessly emerging from an alley. Her car damaged about 45 dollars, Hobbs around 100. Hazel S Bacon 70 of Mulkeytown and Stan Woods 20 of Smithboro involved in an accident near Bath. cars damaged over 100 dollars. The weekend mis hap occurred at 1 58 p m yesterday when Carlos D Swan 16 of 912 south 24th street and Mary B Ward 16 of 5 Grant collided on the Mug Drive-In lot. Swan car damaged over 100 dollars and Ward car about 25.
Wendell Shane of Bethel Road reported to county authorities that three gasoline lawnmowers were stolen from the maintenance building at Bethel Cemetery. The theft occurred sometime Sunday.

Bobbie Alfred Flota charges Myrna Sue Flota with mental cruelty in a divorce filing in circuit court here on Friday. The couple married August 16 1959 and separated May 15 1969. He seeks a property settlement.
