Cairo general reprimands officer over MacArthur incident
Major General Harry L Bolen of the Illinois National Guard says he reprimanded General Julius Klein for criticizing a superior though he denies any reprimand over pro MacArthur remarks or pressure to resign. Bolen notes Klein’s letter criticized General George F Ferry’s handling of MacArthur’s Chicago Soldier Field welcome and mentions a proposed anti aircraft gun salute. Klein plans to publicize the correspondence. Governor Stevenson says he has heard nothing about the exchange.

Minor Blaze Destroys Curtains at Opdyke Avenue Home
Firefighters responded to 013 Opdyke Avenue yesterday at 4 45 p m. to a kitchen blaze caused by a pan of grease. Curtains and blinds were burned but damage was not heavy. Mrs Karch moved the flaming pan to the sink and turned on water. A separate rubbish fire at Tenth and Bell ignited a wooden fence prompting one blaze call.
