Autos Collide on North Tenth Street

A minor weekend collision occurred in the 200 block of North Tenth Street at 5 19 p.m. Cars driven by Henry Harvey red 1 Dix and Gale M Galloway red 3 Bonnie collided after a third vehicle pulled from the curb. Police blamed the unknown driver of the third car for causing the wreck.

Cash Register Till Found Near Dix and Highway 37

A cash register till discovered in a ditch near Dix yesterday is being examined by Mt. Vernon police. Old money order receipts found in the rusted till suggest it was taken by burglars months ago, with the cash drawer located along highway 37.

Man jailed on check charge in local fraud case

James Russell Harriman, 25, jailed on a charge of issuing a bad check. Authorities allege he cashed worthless checks at the Endicott store in Woodlawn and at the Grigg and Bracy stores in the area.

Schedule Meeting For Kindergarten Parents May 26

Parents of children entering kindergarten next fall are urged to attend a school meeting on Wednesday morning May 26 at 10 o clock. City superintendent J L Buford says important information will help prepare children for the upcoming school year. The session will last no more than one hour and children should not attend.

Two Teenagers Arrested in Mt Vernon Theft Case

Two teens Rayman Lee Bushong and Jewel Lee Rich were arrested by county officers on charges of petty larceny for stealing two fires and rims at Mt. Vernon Iron Co on South Sixth Street. They were released on $500 bond each.

Theft reported of lawnmower from home yard

Mrs William Pigg reported to police headquarters that no rubber tired lawnmower was stolen Saturday night from the back yard of her home 400 Jordan The lawnmower was valued at 15 dollars. Former Dentist Named National Orthodontics Official

Dr. George H. Herbert of St. Louis, a former Mt. Vernon resident, was installed as vice president of The American Association of Orthodontists at the May 20 Chicago annual meeting attended by members from all states plus Canada Mexico and South America. He graduated Mt. Vernon High School class of 1915 and Washington University Dental School before returning to Mt. Vernon to practice until 1927 then moved to St. Louis to specialize in orthodontics. He served on the Washington University Dental School faculty for many years.

Oilmen Hear IPPA Official At Green Hills

Oilmen in the area will hear T. C. Huff Jr executive manager of the Independent Petroleum Association of America speak at a luncheon tomorrow at Green Hills country club.
