Arrest after collision between truck and car near Dix
James A. Stewart 26 of RFD Salem was arrested by Deputy Bud Yearwood after a late night auto truck collision on state highway 37 a quarter mile south of Dix. Stewart charged with driving while intoxicated. No injuries reported. Stewart's car sustained heavy damage. truck driver Eugene Smith of Metropolis Illinois unharmed.

A rural fire at Edwin Boyd’s home on RFD 1 Mt Vernon burned a brooder house killing 200 chicks and eight rabbits. Firemen say the blaze started from an overheated stove. Nearby Mrs Cleo Jones alerted responders and another call came from Ray Jones on Opdyke road. The furnace smoke caused minor damage to the house.
