Frank Shelton Dahlgren, 85, of Dahlgren, died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Dahlgren Methodist church and Odd Fellows Lodge. Funeral services set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with two ministers officiating. burial in Oddfellows Cemetery. Survivors include sons Dallas and Martin, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. He was born March 23, 1890 in Hamilton County to Columbus and Minnie Shelton and was married to Flossie Underwood, who preceded him in death. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday.

Bill to let Illinois counties tax coal mines for relief

Jefferson county jury acquitted Mabel Grace Young, 54, of 1121 S. 9th St., of unlawful use of a firearm at the Sportsman Tavern, 1128 S. 10th St., on Jan. 26, after a two day trial before Judge Clarence Partee. Three people were shot and wounded that night.

District 80 Board votes on school repairs and curriculum
A District 80 report notes inadequate laundry service and recommends buying a washer and dryer to save funds. Rend Lake board rejects bids for pro shop and pool plans
The Rend Lake Conservancy District board rejected three bids for food service and bar equipment for the DeP shop. The lowest bid of 32,651.50 came from Rickensohl Inc. of St Louis. Total project costs for building and equipping the pro shop exceed 324,000, 84,000 over initial estimates, while the pool plan faces possible cutbacks if funds wane. The board planned a June 25 review and approved a phase I sewage plant study and a feasibility study for a Gun Creek convention center. Officers were reelected: Covington president Douglas vice president O Sullivan secretary and Fuller treasurer. A three-quarter ton truck for the intercity water system was approved.
