Urges Citizens To Wear a Poppy Here Saturday

Roy Britton, commander of Mt. Vernon Post 141 American Legion, urges citizens to wear a memorial poppy on Poppy Day next Saturday. Legion Auxiliary volunteers will distribute poppies and collect donations for disabled veterans and the children of veterans. Poppies are made by veterans in Veterans hospitals, and contributions aid living veterans and their families.

Rites Held for Sarah Jordan 96 in Local Funeral Service

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Jordan of 239 South 15th Street were conducted Sunday at 3 00 p.m. at Pulley Funeral Home with Rev Bayne D Wilson officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood cemetery. She died Friday night at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital aged 96 years nine months and five days. Born August 13 1854 in McLeansboro she was the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Brook. She married Clifford S Jordan in Mt Vernon. He died in 1942. Surviving are a foster daughter Mrs. W R Good of St Louis and a sister Mrs Tabetha Abelt of Flora. She was a longtime Methodist member.
