A 17 year old Granite City youth drowned Sunday while swimming in Long Lake north of Granite City Madison County deputies said. James Kasson was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy county coroner Ed Werner. Two companions Charles Taul 17 and Robert Sasak 16 both of Washington Park were treated and released from Granite City hospital. Authorities said a strong current pulled Kasson under while his mother watched from shore. The other two boys swam back to a dock.
