Mount Carmel Man Named Head Elk in Illinois

Roland De Marco of Mount Carmel was elected president of the Illinois chapter of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks at a weekend convention in Moline. Woman Charged In Knifing Here

A Mr. Vernon woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after a man was treated for a knife wound at Good Samaritan Hospital. James Fleming was treated for a knife wound in the back. Mary Helen Bigsby, 37, of 112512 South Ninth Street, posted a $100 cash bond on the charge.

Cartonist Dan Fitzpatrick Dies at 78 in St. Louis

Daniel R. Fitzpatrick, editorial cartoonist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, died Sunday night at age 78. He won Pulitzer prizes in 1926 and 1954 and retired in 1958 after 45 years with the paper.
