In Springfield on May 19 Associated Press reports Republicans in the Illinois Senate blocked the proposed car purchases for state agencies. The Agriculture Department and Conservation Department budgets for new cars were cut entirely by 27 to 19 and 27 to 19 votes, with a farm bloc member crossing party lines. The Labor Department car budget survived, deemed small and needed.

Joint Concert From Casey Junior High And Mt Vernon High
This Sunday at 3:30 PM the Casey Junior High orchestra and the Mt Vernon Township High School orchestra join for a festival finale at the high school auditorium. The Singing Strings string ensemble and a freshman chorus perform separately then combine with the orchestra for a three-piece closing set. Funeral services for Guy C. Rogers of Dodds township will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with Rev. Lepton Harpoole officiating. Burial in Bethel cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel after 4:00 p.m. Friday. Rogers, a farmer, died yesterday morning at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital at 63 years, eight months, eight days.
