Fred C. Hertenstein, 75, a former Mt. Vernon resident, died Sunday morning at 2:45 in Blue Mound, Illinois. He was the son of Karl and Theresa Hertenstein. Surviving: two daughters Zelma Painter and Pansy Downing. three sons Scott Gerald and Wayne Hertenstein. two sisters Emma Holland of Mt. Vernon and Adeline Clark of Chillicothe, Illinois. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist church of Blue Mound.

Arthur Grigg officiating. burial in Laird Cemetery. He was born January 5, 1888 in Jefferson County to Jason and Fannie Dodson Vance. He married Lena Butler on October 21, 1915, who survives, along with son Byron Vance, stepson Rozier Kirby, daughter Pearl Green, stepdaughter Bernice Young, and sister Winnie Haines, plus 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral today for Jerry Hayes accident victim
Funeral services for Jerry Ray Hays of Woodlawn, an 18 year old University of Illinois student, were held at New Hope Church in Webb. He died in a train car collision near Mattoon along with six other youths. one was critically injured. Burial followed at Old Shiloh cemetery. He is survived by his parents, four brothers, a sister, and several grandparents.
