Woman lies 12 hours after fall in creek near Bernadotte
Canton Illinois reports Mrs. Mary Haacke, 57, a housewife, fell while mushroom hunting near Bernadotte and broke her right leg. She lay in a dry creek bed for about 12 hours before rescuers reached her. She endured pain by remaining still and counted to pass time. Her husband organized a search as neighbors joined. she was hospitalized in good condition and said she might not hunt mushrooms again.

36 Charter Members Are Honored By Local Kiwanis Club
Mt. Vernon Kiwanis marked its 15th anniversary by honoring 36 charter members at a dinner at L.&N. Cafe. The group began April 4, 1941 after 17 men met at Hunt's Coffee Shop to organize. first charter meeting May 23, 1941 at Hotel Emmerson with 181 attendees.
