Francis Essley died this morning at his home on Route 5. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Myers Funeral Service.
Harlan W. Clayton 69 of Dahlgren died at 6 a m today at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Funeral services set for 2 p m Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home McLeansboro with burial at Mt Nebo cemetery near McLeansboro. Friends may call 6 9 p m Friday at the McLeansboro funeral home. Born July 18 1905 in Hamilton County son of Henry and Anna Clayton. widowed husband of Pearl Martin. Survived by two sisters Beryl Adamson and Hazel Kern, both of McLeansboro. member of Macedonia Masonic Lodge.
Betty Greene 94 of South Holland Illinois died at 10 05 pm Wednesday at Country Manor Nursing Home Dalton Born in Texico September 27 1880 she was married to Theo Duke Greene who died in 1963 Funeral services set for 1 30 pm Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home Dix Burial in Union Cemetery Donations requested to Heart Fund or Cancer Society Survivors include one son Hulon Greene Hayward Wisconsin three daughters Mabel Voss Harvey Tracy Vander Aa South Holland Myrtle Malito Memphis Tenn 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Angelo Bruno, 70, of Pinckneyville Illinois, died after his car left Illinois 127 one mile north of town and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Ronnie Robinson of the Red Cross announces a revised schedule for water safety instructor retraining to June 24 25 and 26 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the city park pool. The program targets all local Red Cross trained instructors across Jefferson and surrounding counties to ensure continued instruction for new swimmers. Interested participants should contact Ronnie Robinson or the local Red Cross office.
The Mt Vernon Public Library will be closed Friday May 16 as staff attend an Illinois State Library Sponsored Pass workshop in Effingham. Operations resume at noon Saturday May 17.

The district also approves 74036.45 in school improvements including roofing, heating controls, boiler work, water fountains and classroom furniture.
Logan Street Baptist Church finishes a $50,000 addition including offices, a baptismal area, and choir rehearsal rooms adjacent to the eight-year-old sanctuary. An open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday invites the public to tour the new facilities with Rev. Charles McFall, 56, of Caseyville Illinois, told police he was abducted by a stranger who forced him to drive from Caseyville to Rolla Missouri about 120 miles away. The abducter threatened with a weapon and disappeared at an intersection in Rolla as police and FBI investigated.
A man described as red bearded with a receding hairline and a 25 to 30 year old Irish citizen touring the country is sought as a material witness in a Centralia murder. No charges filed. arrest request to other states will be dispatched. Motive unclear. investigators consider robbery a possibility despite nothing missing.
