Escaped Patient Kills His Parents in Warwick
An escaped mental patient, Russell Chace Jr., 24, killed his mother Mrs. Russell Chace and father Russell Chace Sr. in Warwick Rhode Island. He was wounded by police fire after a bullet-riddled chase and died at Rhode Island Hospital. The father named the assailant before dying. He had escaped from the Rhode Island Hospital for Mental Diseases less than an hour earlier and had been confined since January 1953.

Teacher Killed In Auto Crash In Champaign
Oscar Osborne a 54 year old Edison Junior High School teacher in Champaign was killed in a head on collision with a small truck on U S Route 150. Miles Coon 20 East St Louis driver of the truck is charged with driving in the wrong lane and defective equipment. Coon reported dimming his lights as Osborne approached from the west but said a defective switch left lights out and the truck veered into Osborne's lane. Osborne formerly served as Mahomet Seymour Community Unit School District 3 superintendent for six years. The truck belonged to Davey Tree Co Kent Ohio.

Ball Bats Stolen At City Park Recovered by Police
