Andrew Dixon of Scheller Dies At Age 78

Andrew Jackson Dixon 78 of Scheller died of a stroke at 9 05 a.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 00 p.m. Thursday at the Free Will Baptist Church of Waltonville with the Rev James Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Ashley. The body lies in state at Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville after 4 00 p.m. today. He was born December 14 1890 in Wayne County to Elijah and Adelia Dixon. He married Elsie Jane Shelton on December 30 1912 in St Louis. She survives. He was a farmer. Survivors include his wife three sons Wilbur Dixon of Chico California Joe Dixon and Jack Dixon both of Route 3 Mt Vernon five daughters Adelia ODare of Garden Grove California Georgie Hunter of Twin Falls Idaho Jane Anderson of Declo Idaho Dorothy Lane of Scheller Nancy Duke of Boise Idaho four brothers Jim Dixon of Ottawa Illinois Frank Dixon of Rocky Face Georgia Oscar and Albert Dixon both of Mt Vernon and two sisters Mrs Sarah Nation and Mrs Altha Bullock both of Mt Vernon 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents one son and one sister.

Lena Caroline Shook 85 of Route 5 Centralia died at 8 30 am Tuesday after a long illness. Funeral 1 30 pm Saturday at Queen Boggs Funeral Chapel Centralia with burial in Mt Evergreen Cemetery Central City. She was born May 7 1884 near Central City and married Hollie Homer Shook Oct 1 1902. Survived by five sons four daughters 25 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren. one son and four brothers preceded her in death.

Texico resident Maude Spangler dies at 59

Maude Spangler, 69, of Texico, died at 1:30 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Donoho Christian church, burial in church cemetery. Osborn Funeral Home in Kell to handle arrangements. Survived by husband Cloyd Spangler, two sons Cleton and Redus, two sisters and several foster relatives.

Ex-Deputy Clerk H. C. Lovin Dies at 81 in Bluford

H. C. Lovin aged 81 of Bluford died this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital after a career as a teacher in Jefferson County and eight years as deputy county treasurer. He served as a community leader in church and county affairs. Funeral arrangements were pending at Myers Chapel. Lovin is survived by his wife Emma four sons Harry Harvey Arthur Bill two daughters Helen and Mildred one brother Floyd and one sister Josie.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Amelia Hinkley, 77, of Ashley, will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hogan Funeral Home in Ashley with Rev. John Nall officiating. Burial will be in Ashley Cemetery. Friends may call after 7:00 p.m. today at Hogan Funeral Home. Mrs. Hinkley died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Nursing Home in Nashville.

Watch For People With White Canes In Mt Vernon

Mt Vernon motorists were urged to watch for pedestrians using white canes. Police Chief Fred Dedman announced several blind residents cross intersections daily and some have narrowly avoided collisions with vehicles, including an incident where a cane was struck.

Child Drowns In The Bathtub In Granite City

A 3-year-old Granite City boy named Jay Segedy drowned in a bath tub at his home. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. His stepmother Betty Segedy told police she placed the boy and his 5-year-old sister in the tub and later found Jay submerged in the water.
