James Ray Daily Named Hamilton County Welfare Superintendent

James Ray Daily of Hamilton County was appointed county welfare department superintendent this week by the State Public Aid Claims mission. He succeeds RH Hamilton who resigned in September 1953. Daily’s appointment was received May 6 and he assumed duties May 10. The county had been without a superintendent for months. A native of Hamilton County, Daily taught at Dela Field School for the past five years and resigned to take the new post.

Tires Stolen From Standard Station On Ashley Road

Vernon police were notified this morning of the theft of tires oil and floor glaze from the Standard Station at 32nd and Ashley Road. Don Price, operator, filed the report at 6 48 a.m. Entrance was gained by breaking a glass panel in the grease room door.

Stolen starting gate cable reported at fairgrounds

A 4 foot steel cable was taken from the starting gate at the fairgrounds. The theft was reported to the county sheriff this morning by Wm. H. Groves who said he would file a complaint against the suspects if they are caught.

A pistol and fishing equipment valued at about $175 were stolen from Harry Irvin at 1113 South 10th Street. Irvin told police the items disappeared over ten days and he does not know how entry was gained.
