Curran Puckett Dies At Age 64 Rites Thursday
Curran Arnold Puckett 64 of 310 North Tenth Street died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital after a weeklong illness. A former Ahrens McCarron salesman, he was born March 4 1695 in Jefferson County. He married Marjorie Compton in 1921 in Mt. Vernon and survived by his wife four brothers and several other relatives. He was a World War VI veteran, First Presbyterian member, and belonged to American Legion and Elks Lodge. Funeral Thursday at 10:30 A.M. Myers Chapel with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. visitation after 7 P.M. tonight.

Oscar W Carr died at 6 30 this morning at his Dahlgren home at age 77 years 11 months 23 days. He was a machinist for John Deere Co and survived by wife Olive Jared Carr born in Carmi Illinois a son Kenneth of Houston Texas two brothers John and Alfred Carr of Zeigler three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral arrangements were incomplete and the body taken to Myers Chapel. He was born May 20 1881 in Carmi NL and married June 22 1912 in Moline Illinois. He was a member of the Christian church of Dahlgren.

E Winn and David Herley will host Edgewood residents while drilling begins in Effingham County village in about three weeks. If oil is found, town owners share royalties proportionate to land owned, with the town receiving one eighth of revenue from any producing well. Winn optimistic about a 240 acre area and a pool under the town. They secured leases from property owners to allow up to 24 wells. One acre owner would get 1 240th of the town share. a single lot much less. Winn says the payoff could be about enough to buy a pack of cigarettes a day.

Start Work On New Orient Coal Mine
In Benton Illinois two weeks away from starting work on Orient No 5 a 600 foot shaft to serve a new Freeman Coal Co mine. The operation three miles east of Benton will employ about 350 when complete in 1960 and haul 7000 tons daily. Freeman also runs Orient No 2 West Frankfort No 4 Franklin County and Orient No 3 Waltonville. President Frank Nugent said Orient No 2 will continue operates.
