Mrs Jennie Verne Jones 74 died today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Born February 6 1887 in Jefferson county she was married to Jacob Olen Jones who died May 25 1959. Survived by three daughters Helen Grimes Frances Johnson Juanita Turmer four sons Walter Loren Roben Charles eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was a member of the Second Baptist church. Funeral arrangements incomplete. Body taken to Myers Chapel.

Jefferson county chapter of the Red Cross will hold its annual meeting Monday at 6 39 PM in the First Presbyterian church Mt V. A disaster meal will be served by Red Cross canteen workers for a nominal cost. Directors will be elected during the business session and the public is invited to attend.

Kerner Targets Republicans In State Voice On 1960 Race

Governor Kerner attacked Republicans while campaigning that spring, saying Daley leads the party and he would decide next spring. He opposed bills to legalize dog racing and to form a state crime commission, arguing criminal prosecutions are local unless local breakdowns occur. He favored a $1 million Rend Lake land purchase and a bill banning interstate billboards.

U S Aid Plan to Bolster South Vietnam Forces

President Johnson outlined a US plan to aid South Vietnam by expanding regular forces by about 2,000, boosting the 150,900 total, arming and training 30,000 village militiamen, and raising the military advisory group from 690 to 1,630. Ranger units and counter guerrilla experts would be added as part of the effort. Clearwater Florida National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution adopted a resolution at its final convention session calling National Council of Churches activities a threat to Christianity and an aid to atheistic communism.
