The community of Dix leads a drive for Red Cross Bloodmobile service to Mt Vernon Armory on May 18 from noon to 6 pm. Dix churches offer donor cards, and a film titled A Life In Your Hands will be shown at the Christian church with a local blood program talk by Mrs. D L Scott. Appointment tables will be at the Dix post office Hawkins store and Rollinson lumber yard for donors.

Mrs Mattie Thimmig a former Mt. Vernon resident and longtime Jacksonville State Hospital attendant received a certificate of merit for efficiency in serving the mentally ill at a May 2 Springfield dinner hosted by Public Welfare Chairman Fred K Hoehler. She placed third among 700 Illinois attendants with Gov Adlai Stevenson presenting certificates.

Woman Injured In Auto Crash Near Mt. Vernon
Iris Miller, 42, of Tuscola NJ, sustained a left arm injury in a two car collision on state route 37 south of Mt. Vernon. Treated at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, she was released. Car was driven by Alice Lossman of Tuscola with passengers Carol Lossman 14 and Rachel Robbins 14. They were returning from a Herrin music contest.

Samuel Turner Dies in Dahlgren at 77
Samuel Turner of Dahlgren died at Memorial Hospital at 4 30 p m Friday aged 77. He was a lifelong resident of Dahlgren. Survived by two sons Homer of Decatur and Charles of Dahlgren and a daughter Mrs Olin Rawls of Faainentet Indiana. Wife preceded him. Body to lie in state at Sanders and Grigg Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Funeral plans unavailable.

Arrested After Minor Accident In Waltonville
James J Myers of Waltonville was arrested by city police on a traffic charge after an accident at Tenth and Newby. Darr ell D. Holland of 412 South 22nd Street was the other driver.
