Betty Jones Betrothed to Stewart Bean in May Wedding

Mrs. Ray Jones of Opdyke announces the marriage of Betty Jones to Stewart Bean of Waltonville. The double ring ceremony occurred at 11 a.m. Saturday May 7 at Morganfield Kentucky Methodist church with Rev. Robert B. Prentis officiating. Honor Hospital Trustees On Hospital Day Dinner

The Good Samaritan Hospital trustees are guests of the Sisters of St. Francis for a National Hospital Day dinner this evening. A musical program features Mrs. Imogene Smith, R. N., with Miss Mabel Pavey. A ground breaking ceremony tape by Dr. Harry G. Thompson will be shown with colored films.

Mother's Day Birthday Celebration at Meyers Home

A group gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Meyers Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day and the birthdays of Mrs. Sallie Allen and Mrs. Sada Meyers. A dinner and supper were served as the evening was spent visiting and taking pictures.

Final Concert of Year at Mt Vernon High School

The Mt Vernon Township High School music department presents its final concert in the high school auditorium at 7 30 tomorrow evening. Four groups girls chorus mixed choir orchestra and band perform with prize winning ensembles and soloists. Proceeds help defray expenses for the state music contest trip. Tickets adults 60 cents students 30 cents at the box office.

Blue Bell Club Hosts Pie Night and Prizes

Rive and wife entertained the Blue Bell Club on Saturday at home. Couples brought a pie each and refreshments centered by a Mother's Day cake. Truman Eyes 4 Billion Tax Increase To Trim Debt

President Truman reiterated support for a 4 billion dollar tax hike to prevent red ink. He noted retiring about 26 billion dollars in national debt since taking office and argued the government should retire 2 to 5 billion annually. The wartime debt now stands at roughly 251.6 billion.

Camp Ground Boys 4-H Club Meets at Highsmith Home

The Camp Ground Boys 4-H Club met Tuesday evening at Darrell and Harlen Highsmith’s home. Talks were given by Darrell Highsmith and Carl Gowler, and a demonstration on garden tractors was presented. Refreshments followed. The next meeting is set for May 24 at Delbert Clifton’s home.

Eisler On Ship Out On Bail In Deportation Fight

Eisler said he only passed through from Germany to Mexico while awaiting deportation proceedings. He acknowledged during passport fraud trial that the Communist party funded two trips to Europe in the 1930s. His sister Ruth Fischer testified that he first came to the United States in 1933 as an agent of the Communist International. She quoted him saying he came to teach Americans how to run the party.

Boy Loses Thumb In Farm Accident

Billie Byars a 12 year old of Keenes suffered the loss of his left thumb late yesterday afternoon in an accident on the Byars farm. He was at work with farm machinery when the mishap occurred and is now a patient at Ren County Memorial Hospital. He is the son of Mrs. Mrry Byars.

Fire in taxi brings blaze to Mt. Vernon station

A motorist dragged a fire to Mt. Vernon Fire Department after the front seat of an Egyptian taxicab caught fire early this morning. Firemen extinguished the blaze. the seat was ruined. They answered another call at 12:35 a.m. to the Holman Building site on North Tenth where a flare had been knocked over with no damage.

Doctors Consult on Blue Baby at Johns Hopkins

Mrs John Tibbetts 25 of Carbondale Illinois is under examination by blue baby specialists at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore as doctors Alfred Blalock and Helen Taussig assess whether the artery rearrangement operation can aid her long standing heart and artery obstruction that limits lung blood flow.
