Convict 4 Hijackers In Trans Atlantic Skyjacking Case

Four hijackers including Zvonka Busic and his wife Julienne were found guilty of air piracy and related conspiracy in a case tied to a September hijack of a New York to Chicago TWA jet. Death penalty not sought. penalties range from life to 20 years to life. Busic admitted planning the skyjacking to publicize Croatian independence.

Woman finds $31,000 on highway may donate to charity

Polly Cooper found thirty one thousand dollars on Northwest Highway near Barrington in Illinois. She told Circuit Court she may give the money to charity if no claimant emerges within a year. Cooper appeared in court to file an affidavit regarding the find with her 13 year old daughter present.

News Shorts Drowns In Carlyle Lake

Frank Tourville aged 20 from East St. Louis drowned while swimming with a companion in Carlyle Lake. Officials said he swam about 100 yards from shore in ten feet of water. The friend returned to shore and Tourville did not follow. his body was recovered after an hour search.

Suspect Arson In Fatal Fire At City Tavern

A fire swept through the Mitch and Bonnie Tavern and adjoining apartments in Chicago injuring eight and killing two women. Police detained a man after he threatened to burn the tavern hours earlier. Victims include Javier Cardenas 23 in serious condition and four family members in fair condition at Mercy Hospital. Fire damage estimated at nine taverns in the building with about 30 evacuated.

Presley Father Vernon Presley Divorced

Vernon Presley Elvis Presley’s father and Dee Presley signed no fault divorce papers ending 17 years of marriage. Vernon said the divorce was by mutual agreement and cited his travel as a cause. They married July 3, 1960 in Huntsville Alabama and had been separated three years. The divorce will be filed in Shelby County Court and granted within about two months.
