Carl Williams Hunt 56 of Route 2 Broughton died Saturday at 7 05 a m at his home. He was a farmer and former Hamilton County Board chairman born August 2 1919 in Hamilton County. He married Verna McPeak on August 24 1939 who survives. He served as county board chairman past president of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau and as Mayberry township supervisor. Funeral 3 p m today at Gholson Chapel McLeansboro with Rev Ernie Essary. burial New Prospect cemetery. He leaves his wife a daughter Elizabeth Ann Pennington and son in law Jerry Pennington two brothers and two sisters.

Danny R. Chandler 17 of East St Louis and Melvin Chandler 15 of St Louis were killed when a 10 foot boat sank on the Kaskaskia River under the Illinois 50 bridge. Four passengers were aboard the overloaded craft. two youths were pulled under by the swift current. Harvey Alvin Chandler 14 and Eugene Webb 28 survived by clinging to the boat until help arrived.

Dr Meggen Aletta Parker practiced medicine in Mt Vernon from 1919 to 1960 receiving a 50 year pin in 1960. He helped found the Good Samaritan Hospital staff and directed the Jefferson County Cancer Clinic for five years. Parker aided early county blood transfusions and helped perform what may have been the first heart surgery in the county. He died after a career in medicine and letters, survived by his wife Florence and family. funeral in Mt Vernon with burial at Mt Vernon Memorial Gardens.
