Funeral arrangements for Mrs B Egbert were incomplete today Ree arrival of her soldier son Old Korea Mrs Egbert of Route 2 died Sunday night at the age of 51 The body was taken to Myers Chapel
Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Lockhart will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pulley Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Lester E. Pifer will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home after 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Lockhart died Sunday in Kimball Montana while visiting her son. She resided at 237 South 15th Street.
Mack G Templeman 85 died last night at 12:40 at daughter Grace Shorts home in Fairfield. A Big Mound township resident, he will be buried in the adjoining cemetery after a 2:30 pm Wednesday service at Richland church south of Boyleston with Rev Lloyd Potter officiating. Richardson Chapel in Wayne City will host callers after 6:30 pm. He was born January 21 1874 in Kentucky, married Carrie Evelina Faylor in 1899, who died in 1957. Surviving: five sons Frank Earl Ray Floyd Clifford all of Fairfield Rochelle. three daughters Grace Shorb Ruth Cable Mary all of Fairfield. one brother George Templeman of Wayne. eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The Mt. Vernon police department pistol team, honored last year, is organized and ready for 1959. Four selected by competitive hiring include Harold Albright with 1602, Art Phillips 1466, Richard Miller 1387, Jack Fairchild, and Bud Webb as alternate. The team will practice three times weekly for the first meet June 17 at Paris, Illinois.
A divorce between Caroline P. Poston and Robert B. Poston was granted in a brief circuit court session led by Judge Randall S. Quindry. The report also mentions a small boat accident near U.S. 136 west of Heyworth, with details of survivors and a tribute to a hero who could not save others.
Hospital notes list admissions and discharges for Jefferson Memorial and Samaritan units. Names include Frank Bean Walton and J C Ray Salem among admitted patients, with several Salem based and Dix area residents. A wave of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms swept a broad belt from South Dakota to Texas. The Associated Press reports Illinois sweltered in May heat with temperatures in the upper 80s to 90s in Peoria Rockford Vandalia and Chicago Midway Airport. Forecasters expected cooler air and partly cloudy skies Wednesday with scattered thundershowers tonight and overnight lows in the 60s to 70s.
Police announced two arrests in a $51 theft from a Mr. Vernon s man purse. Joseph Vernon McCandrew of 3900 south Ninth street was arrested on a larceny charge. William Fairchild, 17, faces an accessory after the fact charge for receiving $16 of the stolen money.
A sharp explosion near the enclosed city hall car area shattered the rear window of Police Chief Werner Pigg's car into thousands of pieces. Offficers attributed the incident to climactic conditions with two large holes and inner shattering in nonburst sections observed.
Archibald MacLeish won his third Pulitzer Prize for a modern verse drama retelling Job. William Mauldin earned a second prize for cartooning, joining a list of multiple- prize winners. The Utica papers shared the public service medal for reform campaigns, and Robert Lewis Taylor won Best American Novel for The Travels of Jamie McPheeters. Ralph McGill led editorials at the Atlanta Constitution. John La Montaine won the music prize for his Piano Concerto.
Daily average U S crude oil and condensate output fell by 24,025 barrels to 7,118,135 in the week ended May 2, with Illinois and Kansas driving the net decline. Illinois fell 13,400 barrels to 209,600, according to the Oil and Gas Journal survey.

Washington AP Illinois congressman Rep George Shipley warned that Yankus move to Australia could fuel anti American propaganda. Shipley said the Dowagine farmer faced a $5000 fine for wheat quota violations and urged him to stay and fight agricultural rules rather than flee the country.
West Frankfort Illinois two civil service merit boards operate rival boards. Mayor Frank Russell says a court will decide which is legally organized. He appoints the Police and Fire Board replacing the one set by former Mayor John Heaton. Heaton supporters remain on the old board as controversy over dismissals continues and a Franklin County suit seeks proof of legality.
Life magazine announced a price drop to 19 cents per copy at newsstands by June 1, down from 25 cents. Publisher Andrew Heiskell said subscriptions would also be reduced. The move marks the first price cut since 1936’s 10 cent start, aimed partly at competing with free television.
In Geary Oklahoma a postal dispute led Miss Minnie Poore to inscribe her mailbox "The Poore House" after Post Office Department officials demanded a name on the box. The humorous sign reflects local character and postal process of the era.
AP reports three 1959 Pulitzer winners were born in Illinois. Robert Lewis Taylor, born Sept 24 1912 in Carbondale, Harvard University 1933 grad, wrote for New Yorker and magazines, authored many books, married with two children in Sharon Connecticut. Archibald MacLeish born Glencoe, librarian of Congress, Yale and Hotchkiss alum, taught at Harvard, prize recipient in 1933 and 1953. John La Montaine, Oak Park native, composer studied in Chicago and Rochester, Navy 1942–46, NBC alum, concert pianist, later at Juilliard.
New York AP reports Arthur Godfrey remains in good condition as doctors deny cancer spread. Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center officials say rumors of metastasis are false and note the full pathology report will not be released. The five hour operation last Thursday removed a cancerous lung tumor and part of his left lung.
Prime Minister Samir Rifai submitted his resignation to King Hussein citing ill health. Government says the king has not yet accepted the move. Rifai had served as premier for about a year.
Arturo Toscanini directed the phony orchestra before his retirement. La Montaine devoted his time to composing. National Symphony at Carnegie Hall and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra performed his works. He is a bachelor living in New York.
