Oscar Trammel 62 of Salem Road died at 5:00 a m today at Good Samaritan Hospital. A carpenter, he will be buried in Bethel Memorial Cemetery after funeral Wednesday at Myers Chapel with Rev A B Clodfelder officiating. He was born November 19 1901 in Pope County Illinois to Thomas and Annie Wise Trammel and married Chloe Linson November 1 1924 in Marion Illinois. Survivors include his wife Chloe, mother Annie Estes of Golconda Illinois, son Jim Trammel of Mt Vernon, sisters Vesta Powell Vienna and Ethel Schuchardt Glendale, and granddaughter Janice. He was a member of Carpenters Local 999 and the Methodist Men’s Club.

Brother Dies In Minnesota

Mrs. Robert Harris of Fairfield Road reports her brother George S. Callais died April 23 in a St. Paul hospital. Funeral services were April 27 at Carlson Funeral Home, St. Paul, with burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Born June 20, 1888 in East St. Louis, he had lived in Minnesota for 40 years and previously in Mt. Vernon. Power Hitters Cause Damage In Mt Vernon

Mt Vernon police received complaints Sunday about wine dows knocked from houses near the city park. Investigation found Allen Dulaney's baseball club practicing. some power hitters knocked them over fences and through windows. The Coal Belters agreed to pay for the damage.

Fines levied in police and circuit courts

Police Magistrate Sherman Bullock fined Donald Hughes Elwyn Cates Edward Lee Stone and Harold Geoghegan of McLeansboro ten dollars and costs on drunk charges. In circuit court John E Campbell was fined ten dollars and costs for following too closely and Dennis H Descher of Waltonville was fined ten dollars and costs for driving with a noisy muffler. Descher paid costs and the fine was remitted.

Local Livestock Market Steady With Hog Top At 13.85

Prices were unchanged on the local livestock market today. The top was 13.85 for 190 to 220 lb hogs. Sows weighed 300 pounds and over brought 11.75 to 12.00, while lighter sows and boars sold between 7.30 and 8.50.

Vice Raid Disrupts Gold Coast Party Night

Chicago police raided a Gold Coast apartment Sunday arresting 49 men and eight women on vice charges. Undercover officer Szcepanik infiltrated the party, noting wigs lipstick sandals blouses and women’s undergarments. Women and two female impersonators performed lewd dances while liquor needles and capsules were seized. Three men faced disorderly house charges and minors were found in the unit along with 52 inmates of a disorderly house. Seven additional arrests included lewd and lascivious conduct. The operation described as a floating vice party had moved from another neighborhood.

Rain Damages Crops In Dixie

Southern states faced torrential rains that caused flash floods and crop damage as a Gulf storm moved offshore. Nearly six inches fell in 24 hours across north Florida, southwest Georgia, and southern Alabama, with Miami area winds blowing debris and injuring two. Johnson to visit five states this week

Grade School Musicians Take 27 Firsts In State

Mt Vernon city school musicians led by Harry Dunham and Kenneth Mills earned 27 first division ratings and 11 seconds in the state instrumental music contest at Herrin. Becky Cook won first for violin and Nancy Jarrell for piano with many other students named among the top divisions. Thieves Loot Coin Machines In Mt Vernon Weekend

Thieves looted cigarette machines at Hazel's Laundromat and Bob Edson's Conoco Service station in Mt Vernon. A break-in attempt jammed Harold Beard's Cities Service station door at 310 Perkins. money and change boxes were taken from machines elsewhere. Police reported no entry at Beard's station.

Car Overturns Driver Fined On Two Counts

Harold Lee Woodward, 19, of Texico was fined 100 dollars and costs for driving while intoxicated after an early Sunday crash on the old Fairfield Road near Mt. Vernon. Woodward, who left the scene briefly, had also a 10 dollar fine and costs for defective equipment. no serious injuries were reported to Woodward or passenger Warren Hammock.
