He married Dessie Stark who preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons James Strain of Bonnie and Charles Strain of Mt Vernon, a daughter Mrs. Margaret Conner of Wilmington Illinois, a brother Arthur Strain of Whittington, and a sister Mrs. Annie Cates of Mt. Vernon.
