Sergeant says he ordered the disputed photo

Pedestrian injured as five accidents erupt on Mt. Vernon streets

A pedestrian, Mrs. Stanley Brandt, 59, of 9411 Perkins Avenue, was injured at 11 10 a.m. when a panel truck struck her at Tenth and Conger. Investigating officers reported head and back injuries. Four other crashes occurred Saturday with minor injuries and citations issued. One driver, L. D. Parmenter, was fined $6.40 for a stop sign violation. A youth, Gerry Pigg, 18, faced charges for failure to yield and license issues. An Evelyn Miller swerved to avoid a collision and struck a fence on South Tenth Street.

Charles E Bruce 85 of 500 North street died Saturday evening at Good Samaritan Hospital seven days after his birthday. He was a carpenter and funeral services were held at Myers Chapel at 3 30 p m with Rev J R Guthrie officiating. Burial in Oakwood cemetery. Born April 24 1869 in Jefferson county to Samuel T Bruce and Martha Yan Dell Bruce, lifelong resident. Survived by two sons Robert L of Marshall Texas and Charles of Fort Worth Texas and two grandsons. Preceded in death by a brother Frank and wife Margaret Burns.

Rebecca Berry Dies At 69 In 1940s obituary

Mrs Rebecca Beckles Berry of 1109 Park Avenue died at 1010 Sunday night in Satori Memorial Hospital at age 69 years nine months and 20 days. Mrs. Luna Masters Mathews 83 of Spring Garden township died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Rites held today at Myers Chapel with Rev. Jennie Stewart 62 of 1410 S 9th St died at Alton State Hospital Saturday. Funeral Tuesday at 2 PM at Corinthian Baptist Church conducted by Rev William Finqua. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial. Rural Firemen Make Three Runs

Mt. Vernon rural firemen responded to three weekend calls. At 6:35 p.m. Saturday a shed fire at a farm owned by Howard Clifton caused minor damage to cardboard boxes. At 6:30 a.m. Sunday lightning struck a TV aerial at Laverne Ritner’s home but caused no fire. At 1:30 a.m. Sunday an oil stove flare up at Arthur Kien’s home on North With caused some damage to the living room floor.

Clarence Estes of 2413 Perkins Avenue reported to police yesterday that flowers were stolen from a grave in Oakwood cemetery. Police warned that anyone caught in such thefts will be arrested.

McCarthy pressuring on speed up in Stevens inquiry

McCarthy pressed for a faster Senate inquiry as he questions Stevens. He warned he may call witnesses including his aides Hoy M. Cohn and Francis P. Carr and possibly Frank Pace and Sen. Bloomington Chaperones Attend State Contests and Concerts

Chaperones spent the night at Bloomington hotels while their a capella choir and orchestra drew enthusiastic applause in Tuscola on Thursday morning and again in Rantoul in the afternoon. They later returned home after participating in state contests in Bloomington across Friday and Saturday.
