Madison Illinois teachers at six public schools returned to classrooms after seven hours of talks with the Madison School Board. AFL Local 763 and board submitted the dispute to the state superintendent for instruction, with 74 teachers and about 2,700 students affected in a city of 8,000. Martha Moyer Rites Wednesday

River Pollution Case Under Way

In Douglas County Circuit Court Judge Grover C. Watson heard preliminary arguments in two pollution actions on the Kaskaskia River. The Illinois attorney general seeks an injunction against National Petro Chemicals Corp. near Tuscola, while National asks for review of an Illinois Sanitary Water Board order to halt pollution. National’s Tuscola attorney James Lemma signaled a request for proof of responsibility, and Assistant Atty. Gen. Mark Roberts said the state will contend National has acknowledged responsibility.
