Kim Rawlinson to Receive Scout Church Award

Case to Attend National Meeting

First Aid Class Starts April 17

Red Cross officials announced a new standard First Aid class starting at 7 30 p m on April 17. Classes will be held at the Red Cross chapter office at 226 South Tenth Street and are tied to civil defense work in Jefferson County.

North Koreans Stricken by Widespread Disease

An informed military source reports that in Red Korea thousands of soldiers and civilians are dying from smallpox typhus and typhoid. The disease is sidelining far more Red troops than United Nations shelling, with civilians most affected.

Mr and Mrs Trvin Underwood of 1004 South 20th street welcomed a son named John Franklin born yesterday afternoon at Good Samaritan hospital. Courtney Sheridan Jr and Mrs Sheridan of Ina have a daughter Valerie Ann born this morning at Good Samaritan. A daughter Linda Jean was born last evening to Mr and Mrs Donald Foss of 150 Opdyke avenue at Good Samaritan hospital. Roy Clemens of Crete Illinois relayed the birth of Patrick Clemens to Mr and Mrs Orvald Jones. the couple also have five year old Michael David, and Pauline Clemens of this city is Mrs Jones formerly.

Summersville P T A elects officers and schedules events

The Summersville P T A met on March 29 with Mrs. Ray Sumner presiding. Officers chosen for the year were Mrs. Leroy Clark president, Mrs. Loren Ellis vice president, Mrs. Cleo White secretary, and Mrs. Russell Miller treasurer. They voted to send Mrs. Leroy Clark to the state convention in May and learned of a round up report, vaccinations, a Parent's Program planning committee, and upcoming banquets and performances by pupils.

Senate probes focus on a 1947 five oil tankers purchase from the Maritime Commission. Admiral William F. Halsey and Edward Stettinius Jr. named as group members. Julius C. Holmes and Joseph E. Makanda, March 30 The Jackson County coroner said Ada Jean Modglin 26 hanged herself after baking a cake and tidying her kitchen Her husband Russell said she seemed happy when he left for work Their four year old daughter was with a neighbor at the time The town of Makanda near Carbondale was noted by the coroner

Maggie Davis 75 of Bluford died at Good Samaritan Hospital at 10 p m. Funeral services are arranged for Wednesday April 4 at 1 00 p m at the U B church Bluford with Rev Bird Green officiating. Mt Vernon man and son escape injury in truck rollover

A Mt Vernon man Ed ward Coleman and his six year old son Tommy escaped injury when a Liberty Oil Co truck overturned on state highway 37 about a mile north of Mt after a collision with a 1996 car driven by Steve I Hayes of 807 south 13th street Hayes, who also escaped injury, was passing the truck when the impact occurred. The bumper contact caused the truck to flip with its wheels in the air. The rig carried empty oil drums and both vehicles were traveling in the same direction. State Patrolman Buck Lyons and Carl Pendel investigated.

Sister of Mrs. Merz Dies During Visit in Decatur

Mrs. Alice Cummings and Miss Nell Kell learned of the death of their sister Mrs. W. W. Merz of Salem. She died this morning in Decatur while visiting her daughter Mrs. Gladys Weleh. Funeral plans were incomplete with services set to be held in Salem.
