Charles Henry Williams 97 of Woodlawn died at home Thursday morning. Funeral services set for 2 30 p m Saturday at Myers Chapel with Rev Clarence Coats officiating, burial in Reynolds Cemetery. He served as a private in Company G 30th Regiment in the Spanish American War from 1899 to 1901 and was Jefferson County's last surviving veteran. He married Verde Troutt in 1904 and leaves a large family including wife four sons one daughter many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He worked for L N Railroad before the war and farmed afterward. born February 24 1878 in Shiloh Township. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Two Franklin County Deputies Plead Guilty
Two former Franklin County deputy sheriffs pleaded guilty to multiple charges. Clifford Parrish 26 of Zeigler admitted burglary theft over 150 dollars and official misconduct and had served as an investigator for the state's attorney's office. Ronald Talley 25 of Benton pleaded guilty to three counts of concealing a fugitive and one count obstructing justice. Sentencing hearings were scheduled for April 15 for Parrish and April 16 for Talley.

Two 18 and 19 year olds face manslaughter charges

Mt Vernon Man Pleads Guilty To Gambling Charge
Ely B. Tate, 64, of 616 S 16th St, pleaded guilty in circuit court to a gambling charge. He was sentenced to six months probation and a $100 fine after police found gambling devices in the trunk of his car. Police stopped him Wednesday at the request of Centralia police over a shoplifting tip. It is unclear if Marion County will file further charges.

15 Years Old Arrest Second Marion Youth In Woman's Death
A 15-year-old Marion youth surrendered to Herrin police and was jailed in Williamson County after being sought in the robberies tied to the beating of Mrs. Blanche Ellet 82 Blairsville March 18 and the asphyxiation death of Mrs. Cary Lee Reischauer 79 Carbondale January 26. FBI ARREST Fourth Radical in Five Years
Miss Saxe a 26 year old Albany New York woman was captured on a downtown Philadelphia street by a police officer who recognized her from FBI photographs and an issued description. Authorities say she was believed to be in the area and she was unarmed and did not resist arrest.
