Ogilvie Seeks 323 Million Dollar State Savings
Illinois Governor Richard B. Ogilvie announced aides estimate 323 million dollars can be saved from two year appropriations ending June 30. Deferrals of new buildings and capital improvements would save 134 million, with operating expenses 106 million, personal salaries 49 million, and state grants in aid nearly 34 million. He said the plan could keep agencies on target for a 10 percent cash saving and would be reviewed at a cabinet meeting to assess February expenses and further economies.

Four teenagers from East St Louis were charged with attempted murder and robbery after an off duty officer, patrolman Calvin Phillips, was shot twice outside Lincoln High School while waiting for his wife.
