Independent oil men from Mt. Vernon and across Illinois will attend a district dinner of the Independent Petroleum Association of America in Evansville Indiana. About 300 attendees are expected with IPAA president W M Vaughey and general counsel Russell B Brown to discuss the 1954 outlook, oil imports, supply and demand, and taxes. The Evansville meeting, arranged by IPAA VP John R Lavens Jr, begins with a reception and dinner after 5:45 p.m. Tuesday March 30 at the McCurdy hotel.

The Centralia mine disaster anniversary highlights survivors and benefits. Social Security records show 111 miners died at No. 5 Mine on March 25, 1947, leaving 98 widows and 78 dependent children. At present 39 dependent children and 24 widows receive benefits, with 12 child beneficiaries and 12 aged widows.
