Stief Receives Six Month County Jail Term on Probation Violation
William Crawford Stief, 23, of 323 Mail St, pleaded guilty in circuit court Tuesday to a probation violation. He received six months in Jefferson county jail and six months probation thereafter. This marks his second probation violation in six weeks after prior sentencing on February 13. He was initially placed on two years probation for a May 1973 burglary at Fair Feed Co., 323 S 11th St.

Herrod Placed On 2 Years Probation After Guilty Verdict
Theodore Raywell Herrod, 16, of 1109 S 12th St, found guilty of aggravated battery by a county jury Feb. 19. He was placed on two years probation by Judge Clarence Partee after his attorney said an appeal would be filed. The judge ordered the Illinois Defender Project to represent Herrod on appeal. The incident near Mt Vernon Township High School on Oct 11 led to school area tension. He had no prior police record and confinement was deemed unnecessary.

Mascoutah Man Pleads Guilty To Marijuana Charge
Alan Riddle, 21, of Mascoutah, pleaded guilty in circuit court to a misdemeanor possession of cannabis. The felony possession of a controlled substance charge was dismissed. Judge Alvin Lacy Williams fined $750 and placed him on one year probation. Riddle was arrested Sept 22 1973 and indicted on Sept 25 1973. the latter count was dismissed.
