William Ray Faulkner, 52, pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was fined 200 dollars plus costs. Homer Dagg pleaded innocent to purchasing copper wire from minors and requested a jury trial. trial date not set.

Snowplow Stuck In Deep Drifts In Idaho

Truck drivers John Gibbs and Floyd Allen trudged seven miles to Henry Idaho to seek a ride into Pocatello after getting trapped in heavy drifts near Grays Lake. They were driving the snowplow themselves and knew calling for aid would not help them.

Russians Reject Plan to Cut Armies at London Talks

Western representatives at the London Disarmament Conference report that the Soviet Union rejected a Western proposal to reduce the U S United States Russian and Red Chinese armed forces to between 1 and 144 million men each. French delegate Jules Moch said Moscow offered a one third cut for all sides which he called unacceptable. US Ambassador James J Wadsworth said such cuts would preserve mass army superiority and the USSR would not disclose future force figures.

State Senate To Get Chicago Crime Reports

CHICAGO The Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee will study the secret files of the City Council Big Nine Crime Committee on Tuesday. Irwin N. Cohen chief counsel for the Crime Committee will provide material he believes helpful to Sen. T. Mac Downing chairman of the panel. Cohen cited the issue of public release as to be decided by the committee amid questions about subpoenas and the reports of former investigator Downey Rice who resigned earlier this month alleging inaction on his findings linking crime and politics in Illinois.

Four Accidents on Mt Vernon Streets Prompt 3 Fines

Four traffic collisions occurred on Mt Vernon streets Friday leading to three drivers being fined. Gifford Nelson and Cephas Tucker were cited for failing to yield at south Seventh Street near the L and N railroad. Julius Asbridge and Guy R Page were fined for yielding violations and a faulty windshield wiper respectively. Velma Mae Wood was involved in a late afternoon collision with Preston Dulaney. A. L Richards and B A Huffman also collided on Main near Tenth as Huffman pulled away from a curb.

A minor fire broke out at Mt. Vernon Furnace and Mfg Co yesterday during the noon hour. Hot castings in a shotblast machine ignited rubber aprons. Firemen arrived to find the blaze under control and damage limited to minor scorching.
