Mt Vernon resident Sergeant First Class Ray A Derry was interviewed on an American Forces Network broadcast February 25 during the 16th Combat Team review in Nurnberg. The event, observed by General Lucius D Clay, marked the 16th Infantry Regiment crossing of the Roer River four years earlier near Wirzewau. Derry joined in 1941 and has fought in six campaigns and three beachheads in Africa Sicily and Europe and earned the Bronze Star while with A Company during the Roer crossing.

Funeral services for Otis Ferguson a retired Mt. Vernon barber who died at 4:00 a.m. yesterday will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Andrew Cavaker will officiate with burial in Bailey Cemetery north of Wayne City. The body lies in state at the Pulley Funeral Home after 10:00 a.m. Sunday for viewing.
