Helicopter Pilot Freed By Soviets After Detention
The U S Army helicopter pilot 1st Lt Lewis E Jacquay of Fort Wayne Indiana and German companion Horst Kuehn were released by Soviet and East German authorities at the East German border near Bad Neustadt Bavaria. They had been held a week after a forced landing across the border during a survey flight. Jacquay was reunited with his wife Sharon and their 3 year old son as he flew to Stuttgart. Both men reported in good health and the Army noted they received good treatment during detention.
