Mrs Rosella King travels to Moline Illinois to visit son Floyd Etheridge and Everett Etheridge in Canton Illinois. Several residents and visitors frequent Mt Vernon area with trips to Centralia Zeigler Benton DuQuoin St Louis and nearby cities. Notables include Roy Simpson speaking at Lafayette Life, with many brief visits and errands across the region.
The House Labor Committee approved the administration labor bill 13 to 10 after 15 minutes behind closed doors. Rep. Lucas joined nine Republicans in opposing the measure. The bill would repeal the Taft Hartley Act and restore the Wagner Act with changes. an identical Senate action is pending.

A son arrived for Mr and Mrs Orval Shreve of Wayne City at Good Samaritan Hospital this morning. Mr and Mrs Faye Payne of Bluford welcomed a son at Good Samaritan Hospital this morning. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Darrell W Smith in this city at Good Samaritan Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Eldone Earl Vaughn welcomed a daughter last night at Good Samaritan Hospital. The Rev and Mrs Robert Fe Foelber of 1608 Isabella had a son born at 8 32 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital weighing six pounds 13 ounces named Robert Eugene Jr. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Harold Osborn of 1205 Forest Avenue welcomed a daughter at 10 38 am today at Jefferson Memorial Hospital weighing seven pounds six ounces. Mr and Mrs Stanley Hess of 2217 Cherry celebrated a daughter born at their home this morning named Karen Sue.
Illinois Supreme Court upholds murder conviction of Glenn Marsh 28 of Rockford serving 199 years for the slaying of Grant Muhrlein father of Marshs paramour Katherine Kit Anderson. Court overrules claim of unfair trial in Winnebago county circuit court. Marsh had previously been acquitted of murdering Vernon Anderson.

John Foster Dulles warned at the Philadelphia Bulletin Forum that the North Atlantic Pact could halt wars or trigger a third world conflict. He stressed the pact is defensive and urged careful conduct to avoid misinterpretation by the Kremlin. Charles Bohlen noted U N vetoes stall peace but said the pact does not replace the United Nations. Dulles pledged U S would join any attack on a member state.
Local finals in the Stars of Tomorrow talent quest take place Friday night at the Granada theatre. Winners from six weeks of contests compete to represent Mt. Vernon in the district show to be held at the same Granada venue.
Norman Swem of Fairfield Road sustained multiple cuts to the forehead and face yesterday when a crated refrigerator fell at the Manion Warehouse on Third and Casey. He received treatment at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Swem is a partner in the warehouse business.
