Death of Hugh C. Green Former Mt. Vernon Resident

Hugh C. Green a 35 year old former Mt. Vernon resident died in his sleep at his Altamont home. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Green of 1121 North Street and survived by his wife Jean Merritt and three children Harold Marjorie and David plus a brother Donald of East St Louis. Funeral services will be held at Nate Funeral Home in Fairfield Monday afternoon conducted by Lester Pifer minister of the Central Church of Christ. Green was born in Mt Vernon November 23 1921 and lived there until 1934 moving to Springfield then returning in 1939 and remaining in Mt Vernon until 1953.

Fire destroys half block in Elko business district

A Friday night blaze in Elko Nevada wiped out a half-block of the business section with losses pegged at 1 500 000. No casualties were reported.
